do you spell it gray or grey? i can never make up my mind.

I generally spell it gray, with the “rule” rhyme that there’s an a in gray. I can never remember if this is right or not, but it has largely to do with whether you’re American or Brittish.

it makes no difference. As long as the word is unambiguous.
Language is about communicating an idea,  spelling is only important  if it’s possible for the person  you are trying to communicate with to be unsure and become confused as to the idea you are trying to communicate.

such as the american date format of mm/dd/yyyy which is retarded.
