Not eating to pay the rent
“Experts told the housing conference yesterday that Australia faced great social unrest and human suffering as well as chronic labour shortages without affordable housing.”
This story is a bit of an over exaggeration, some people might be choosing to skip meals to pay rent but I don’t imagine they have to. It’s more likely they are skipping meals so they can continue to waste money on their car, or so they can have a night out drinking.
But the increase in housing prices is an obvious outcome of property becoming an investment instead of a home. The purchase of investment property decrease the availablity of property, which leads to an increase in price. The increase in price leads to higher rents.
