Firefox + proxy = fail
Firefox really doesn’t like slow proxy servers. I’d think they’d put some kind of threading around something that is likely to block and freeze up the whole GUI, but I guess not.

You can get anything you want on Alice’s NNTP. (even .GIFs of Alice!) You can get anything you want on Alice’s NNTP. Telnet over, it’s a simple hack. Port one-nineteen is where it’s at. and you can get anything you want on Alice’s NNTP.

“Kira is a programming language that compiles to PHP. PHP is the best platform for web applications, but the language operating the platform is out-dated for a modern world. In fact, the PHP language sucks.” wow, that’s weird

The Bad: The ‘awesome bar’ isn’t very awesome, infact it’s weird and scary. The hyped stuff, like the new bookmark manager are nothing to get excited about. Under the dwm window manager it shakes and attempts to resize itself when not in floating window mode. The Good: seems to be faster proper non truncated image descriptions(yay, fixes the problem with xkcd) ...

Precipitation of liquid water drops greater than 0.5 mm in diameter. In contrast to showers, it is steadier and normally falls from stratiform (layer) cloud. It’s water falling from the sky, how weird is that?

A rallying cry against cyberbullying →
The biggest problem with computers is that so many people think they are some kind of magic. They expect that they must be complex and different from everything else. Bullying is not an internet problem, it’s a human being problem and there are already laws to deal with ways humans communicate. “Missouri litigators said they didn’t have a law to prosecute the case at the...

Counting Characters in UTF-8 Strings Is Fast →
“So, on my CPU, the C version of strlen took about 28% less time than the built-in inlined one for this long string; it only uses two registers instead of the three used by the built-in inlined one (the one that uses repnz scasb); and they both seem to be about 12 bytes. I don’t know why GCC inlines the worse one. Most likely it used to be faster than whatever GCC...
