“I’d say 85% of them were misconfigured routers. They had the default passwords on them,” said Moore. Computer security,  it’s all completely pointless if you don’t change the default passwords.

Do You Write Like a Terrorist? →
“  A federally-funded artificial intelligence lab is figuring out how to track people over the Internet, based on how they write.” “The Arizona group has been at this sort of research for a while, now — sifting through more than 900,000 Islamist web pages.” What about the Christian extremists? The Anti-Abortionists? The Creationists?

No matter what they do it’s not going to stop people sharing this digital content, so they should just get used to it and adapt.  It’s a pretty simple solution. If you can’t stop people sharing your stuff, then create inventives for people to buy it directly from you. There are plenty of sites that create incentives for membership by fostering a relationship between the...

SELinux vs. OpenBSD's Default Security |... →
The general opinion was that SELinux and its policy language are too complex, leading Damien Miller to note, “every medium to large Linux deployment that I am aware off has switched SELinux off. Once you stray from the default configurations that the system distributors ship with, the default policies no longer work and things start to break.” I completely agree, everything I’ve...

Full Cost →
At Colorado State University they have developed solar panels that can be produced at less than $1 per watt, these panels should reduce the cost of generating solar electricity for roughly the same cost as other forms of generated electricity(Coal, Oil, etc). This is a good thing. But interestingly doesn’t take in to account the full actual cost of producing electricity using Oil or Coal....

PHP is a horrible language, but rails is a framework and frameworks put restrictions on how you design your program and always lead to nasty hacks. I have the same opinion on object orientated programming languages.

Thought: Some times I think that I’m making it hard for myself using gentoo, xterm and nano. Maybe I should use Kubuntu, it’s apparently easier to use and there are much more featureful text editors than nano.   But  whenever I leave my cosy environment and venture out I find a disappointing world of crashing programs, weird behaviour and irritation and quickly retreat.

Google Plans to Put Video Ads Into Search Results →
Wow,  I wonder if google can do this without destroying it’s business.  One of the main great things about google search is the lack of junk on the search pages. If this changes then people’s opinion of google will also change.
